A minute to prevent Child Sexual Abuse – Young Indians – Leher, launched by Kailash Satyarthi

Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Laureate, Launches a one minute film making competition against Child Sexual Abuse.

Earlier this week we were fuming at the reports of Child Abuse that came from various parts of the country. We voiced our concerns, probably posted about it on social media and signed many a petition. However over time this intention fizzles away, until the next gory act recurs.

Every 5th Child in India is thought to face critical forms of Child Abuse. 40% of India’s children are susceptible to threats (being homeless, trafficking, crime etc.) .Behind these numbers and data is probably a child you know.

If you are a film maker and want to Be The Change, to help make India safe again, register for Leher. Young Indians – CII Bengaluru , launched this one minute film competition in the presence of Shri Kailash Sayarthi , Nobel Laureate today at the Nehru Bal Bhavan, Bangalore.

“ Yi Bengaluru through Masoom has taught 1.5 lakh children on safe-unsafe touch. We trained 600+ teachers. However we realised that Child Abuse cannot be prevented by knee jerk initiatives. A continuous stream of knowledge is needed for all stake holders. There is also a dearth of video material that is socially relevant to India. This made us think what if we could release an one minute video every week for a year. That resulted in Leher”, shared Dr Kaushik Murali , Chair Young Indians CII Bengaluru.
Laeeq Ali , CoChair Young Indians CII Bengaluru Chapter shared.“30 million urban children and many more across rural india have acess to a mobile. With 43% of them accessing the internet , creating a short video that could easily be shared was the most logical way to achieve scale in educating children and other stakeholders about child abuse. We now invite film makers who will take on the challenge to compete and make the best 1 minute film. These would be released one a week and would eventually be a repository for all NGOs , Parents , Teachers & Schools who wish to use this medium to educate stakeholders.”

Film makers would not only have the satisfaction of helping prevent child abuse , but would also benefit from cash prizes , recognition at Big Bang Awards , Bangalore and stand a chance to feature at film festivals.

“It is upto us to make India safe again.Through this Bharath Yatra my resolve has strengthened to end abuse of our children. I congratulate Young Indians who have through their Masoom initiative have impacted lakhs of children across India. This initiative of Leher of Young Indians Bengaluru would play an important role in increasing awareness and i look forward to being there when the best films are recognised next year with the award.” Shared Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.

Various partners of Young Indians – District Child Protection Unit, Bangalore, Faith Foundation, Storywallahs, Mukta Initiative, Sankara Eye Hospital, Origami Creative and Ad Club Bangalore were honoured.

Young Indians Bengaluru, CII comprises of professionals and entrepreneurs united with a mandate of Nation Building. Project Masoom is one of the social projects on eliminating child sexual abuse.
